Empties: Products I have used up this month
I am writing this amid a cloud of satisfaction. I fucking love using stuff up. I love cleaning out empty bottles and putting them in the recycling. It’s so satisfying.
Also because I love empties posts + videos. Empties and favourites are where I get all of my product recommendations. It means there’s been the whole product’s worth to test out if it’s good or not. And that’s usually quite long.
Finally, because I like to keep a little list running of whatever I have tried and loved. I generally try new things rather than repurchasing the same ones, but sometimes it’s good to revisit old favourites.
This month has happened to be one of using everything up. It’s been delightful. Here goes.
Alpha H Liquid Gold – A holy grail glycolic acid product that is brightening and smoothing. Recommend a thousand times.
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair – Lovely serum that really helps with sun damage. Very expensive – bit bloody bougie – you could get the same effect cheaper but give it a go if you can afford. Also mixes really well with foundation to give it a gorgeous finish.
Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion – A bit of a blah product. Seems nice, not sure what it’s doing really.
Garnier Caffeine Eye Roll on – This is embarrassingly old. In fact I think they may have discontinued it now but when you wake up really early with puffy eyes, these cold roll ons are so soothing.
Ultrasun Face SPF30 – I loved this. As an everyday SPF, it’s hydrating and not too slimy or oily. Works great under makeup.
Lacura Caviar Illumination Night Cream – The infamous Aldi one. I wasn’t convinced. This wasn’t hydrating enough for my desert-dry skin. It’s supposedly a dupe for the La Mer Caviar one which is £600, so for £7 it’s not doing so bad. Smells really nice.
Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow – Lovely beamy primer/balm sort of thing. A lot like Strobe cream.
GOSH #FoundationDrops – These were a great fist try of foundation drops -which I am now obsessed with. Super full coverage but a little bit drying. You get a nicer effect if mixed with The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum. Abysmal shade range – they have basically just made this for pale people.
LA Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealer – This was overhyped. I wasn’t too fussed. Seems like an okay concealer, very peachy toned. Comes in one of those horrid brush-tipped tubes. It just doesn’t beat Collection Lasting Perfection for me. Although the shade range is much better.
Eyeko Brow Gel – This is tinted and lovely, lasts forever, and I thought would be my go-to until I discovered Glossier Boy Brow. It’s still good, just not as good as BB.
Joya Perfume Oil in Foxglove – I bought this on a whim because the bottle is so beautiful – like a little clay vase. It’s nice, very plant-like smell but not floral really. Perfume oils are a faff though and the dropper on this isn’t actually helpful despite being coated in gold. It’s an expensive perfume too, I feel that you’d be better off trying Jo Malone, or oils with a different applicator.
Dr Bronner Magic Castile Soap – I use this for everything; cleaning makeup brushes, in toilet cleaners – it’s a very multi-dimensional product. This is the almond one which smells delicious, like amaretto.
Neal’s Yard Bee Lovely Hand Cream – This smells gorgeous I can’t even comprehend it – oranges and honey everywhere. It’s a really nice hand cream, sinks in quickly and a little goes a long way. Plus it saves the bees.
Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Daily Skin Therapy – My go-to daily body lotion for years although I am now leaving this behind because the packaging is difficult to recycle. It’s gorgeous and smells like chocolate and makes everything soft and nourished.
Aveda Stress-Fix Body Lotion – A sample to cover me before I got a now lotion, this was fine – nothing to write home about.
And that’s it – phew. On to the new stuff now.
